The first sport in school history to have five consecutive 20-win seasons, the Muhlenberg College volleyball program developed a standard of athletic and academic excellence in the 1990s that it has continued well into the new century.
Preseason practice begins in late August with a squad of about 15. The schedule, which runs from late August to early November and typically includes about 30 matches, is a combination of tournaments and dual-match play.
Each season, Muhlenberg competes in several tournaments that offer top-notch regional and national opposition and give the team the opportunity to travel to different parts of the country. In the past several years, Muhlenberg has also competed in Daytona, Fla.; Amherst, Mass.; Pittsburgh; Chicago; and suburban Los Angeles, and the team is scheduled to play in Memphis in 2013. The Mules also have hosted the Buttermaker Tournament every year since 1998.
