Ruben Vargas ’05 found The Wescoe School to be both convenient and accessible for a working father like himself. He enjoyed an evening class schedule that didn’t overwhelm his work or personal responsibilities. He was able to complete his degree without sacrificing his career or family.
Vargas believes the cohort program is a perfect match for adult learners. The collaborative environment proved ideal for developing relationships and working toward the collective goal of obtaining a college degree.
“Like any real challenge, having others to help you attain your goals helps,” Vargas says about the cohort system. To this day, despite long distances and burgeoning careers, he still keeps in touch with his classmates.
Vargas, a regional sales manager for a medical device company, constantly finds opportunities to utilize his education from The Wescoe School. Although he entered the program with a strong background in clinical health care, he lacked the business knowledge that would allow him to excel.
He credits his business management courses with giving him a better understanding of his industry. Vargas enjoyed the opportunity to combine his classroom knowledge with his industry experience extremely useful.
“The hardest hurdle was convincing myself that I could finish, that I could manage it,” says Vargas about completing his degree. “It can be done. Believe in yourself, and believe you can do it.”
