typical day: It varies but my responsibilities include:
-Media Relations: Press releases, proactive pitches, spokesperson for the company
-Investor Relations: Write and distribute annual report, quarterly reports, and all shareholder communications
-Community Relations: Serve on various boards and manage sponsorship budget and Univest involvement in the community
-Special Events: Manage all Univest special events (receptions, seminars, Grand Openings, etc)
-Employee Communication: Speech writers for executive group, oversee corporate newsletter and e-mail communications to employees and retirees

exciting news: Married Jason C. Detwiler - June 2001
Worked my way up at Univest, got promoted to current position at Univest in February 2005.
Had my first child - April 2005: Lindsay Renee Detwiler

insights: Take advantage of every opportunity to gain experience

Secure internships with various communication companies. This helped me tremendously - PennDOT PR Department, White House Photo Office and WFMZ-TV newsroom.

Get to know the community where you work. Meeting "key" people in the community is helpful in improving a company's image and helps you develop a network of professionals you can go to for support.
