Organizational Communication

Much of Kathryn L. Ranieri's work focuses on functional and intellectual diversity in organizations particularly as it relates to problem solving in work groups. Her case study, "Toward Group Problem Solving Guidelines for 21st Century Teams," was recently published in Performance Improvement Quarterly. Earlier research, presented at national and international conferences, used feminist theories to examine the rhetoric of body images, specifically, the tacit dimensions of mediated portrayals of women's bodies. In response to nationwide healthcare disparities, Dr. Ranieri's current project analyzes mediated health messages targeted at African American women. Before joining the faculty, Kate worked as an organizational performance improvement consultant and a health education writer for pharmaceuticals. She teaches Organizational Communication, Race and Representation and Introduction to Communication.
