New York's Chinatown is the second largest Chinese settlement in the United States. The first immigrant from China is believed to be Pung Hua Wing Ching, a servant to John Jacob Astor. Then there were three pioneers to New York's Chinatown and they were Lee-Ah bow, Ah Ken, and a merchant on Mott Street. The beginning of Chinatown however, started between 1872 and 1882. Chinese Immigrants were settling on Mott and Canal Street. Chinatowns were first known as ghettos and troubled areas.
