Eve is tempted to taste from the Tree of Knowledge that exists in the Garden of Eden. He tells her that she will be wise and gain truth and knowledge equivalent to that of God. She bites the apple and commits original sin. Many believe that the punishment for this is that all women have a painful experience during childbirth.
