Position Title: Dean of Students
Supervisor: President of the College
Classification: Management

Under the direction of the President, the Dean of Students is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive environment and culture that synthesizes the intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual development of our students in a holistic way.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Manages departments that provide student learning and development opportunities: Community Service and Outreach, Student Activities, Athletics, Greek Life, Residential Services, Intramural and Recreation, and Student Leadership.
  2. Manages departments that provide student and college-wide support services: Campus Safety & Security, Student Health Center, Student Counseling Center, Student Union and Food Services, Major Events Coordinator, Student Housing and Judicial Affairs.
  3. Responsible for learning and development of students outside the classroom.
  4. Coordinates with campus constituencies and community leaders in developing and managing co-curricular learning and service opportunities.
  5. Works with the Student Affairs staff, student groups and other members of the College community in developing extracurricular programming assuring integration with the academic life of the institution and encouraging student personal growth and development.
  6. Helps establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership.
  7. Provides leadership in and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and regulations pertaining to student life, especially those related to alcohol and drug usage, student conduct and student residences.
  8. Develops and coordinates policies and procedures relative to all student activities; oversees annual production of Student Handbook and other documents.
  9. Administers the policies and regulations of the College as they pertain to students, including internal College judicial and disciplinary procedures.
  10. Coordinates enrollment management for the College.
  11. Serves as liaison to Board of Trustee Committees on Campus Life and Legal Affairs.
  12. Serves as a member of College’s senior management team.
  13. Serves as ambassador for College with alumni, parents, students, neighbors, community leaders, and professional colleagues.
  14. Serves as liaison with community leaders including Chief of Police, City Council, and community service organizations.


  1. Doctorate or Master's degree (minimum) with at least ten years of increasingly responsible experience in Student Affairs at a small, private, liberal arts institution.
  2. Excellent leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead a student affairs staff.
