The Department of Campus Safety's primary mission is to provide a safe and secure campus environment, the prevention and detection of crime, the maintenance of public order and service to the community. Our mission objective is to provide a safe environment in which members of the Muhlenberg community can pursue academic goals in a secure atmosphere. The Department of Campus Safety exists to not knowingly allow students or other members of the Muhlenberg community to harm themselves or others, or to violate the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or the Social Code of Muhlenberg College. We will also strive to be sensitive and supportive to the Muhlenberg community. The Department provides services to the Muhlenberg community. We offer crime prevention programs such as Operation I. D., R. A. D. (Rape, Aggression, Defense Program), and others. (See Crime Prevention for more information.) We also provide an escort/transportation service from dusk to dawn for students and staff. The Department of Campus Safety is available to members of the Muhlenberg community for purposes other than law enforcement. We provide a support system of information and guidance. Working closely with other support services on campus, we can provide referrals for students, faculty, and staff to best meet the needs of a diverse campus community. After hours, we serve as the primary liaison to other service personnel such as Health Services, Housing and Residence Life, Plant Operations, and other administrative departments. The Department of Campus Safety is located in the lower level of Prosser Hall. It is handicapped accessible and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Our department strives to provide the necessary education and training for individual officers to promote departmental growth and increased professionalism. |
