Operation Identification is an anti-theft program that is spreading
rapidly across the country. Its aim is to deter burglars and (failing
that) to help police recover and identify stolen property. The program
works as follows:
- Electric engravers can be checked out from the Campus Police to mark
valuables (Muhlenberg I. D. required).
- Engrave your social security number on all easily movable or portable
items of value.
- List your valuable items, being careful not to overlook anything. Keep
a record of articles with brand, model, serial number and value where it
is safe and easily found.
- Books are becoming expensive and an easy target for a thief. Never leave books unattended and mark
several pages with your initials in order to maximize the chance of catching the thief before the books are resold.
- To help identify stolen property recovered by Police Departments, the
Campus Police keeps a list of students' social security numbers. Thus,
recovered property can be matched with a student's name and returned to them.
To help deter bicycle theft and to aid in the identifying and returning of lost or stolen bikes, all members of the Muhlenberg college community are encouraged to register their bikes with the Campus Police Department. Bikes can be registered at the communications center and each bike will be issued a numbered sticker to aid in this identification. To register your bike, you must come to Prosser Hall and provide the make, model, serial number, color, number of gears, special equipment, and wheel size.
The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. The RAD System is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a Martial Arts program. The course is taught by an Officer that is a certified RAD instructor and a workbook / reference manual are provided for you. This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth. The RAD System of Physical Defense is currently being taught at many other Colleges and Universities. The RAD System is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective, and proven self defense / martial arts tactics. The system will provide a woman with the ability and knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance. Women are educated about the "Flight or Fight Syndrome", while showing them that enhancing their option of physical defense is not only prudent, but a necessity if natural resistance is to be effective. Muhlenberg College, Department of Campus Safety offers this course free to faculty, staff, and students (undergraduate and graduate). Check this page in the future for class announcements or program updates. For additional information about our RAD program, please contact the Campus Police at 484-664-3112 (on campus - extension 3112), or write the webmaster by clicking on the email option at the bottom of this web page.
