Pre-Orientation Programs

Pre-Orientation trips occur the 3-4 days prior to the official Orientation Program.  These excursions are memorable experiences where you get to know other Muhlenberg first-year students in small group settings.  Participants will meet new friends and contribute personal strengths in programs that are fun and educational.  Each program is coordinated by a member of Muhlenberg’s faculty or staff and created to offer new students activities that are supportive learning opportunities.

The trips for 2007 are as follows:

NEW IN NEW YORK

Program Description:  Explore the contemporary New York arts scene with a three-day, two-night trip to Manhattan.  Expert Muhlenberg faculty will introduce you to the newest in theatre, dance, music, sculpture, painting, and photography.  The trip will include visits to art galleries and museums during the day and theatre, music, and dance performances in the evenings.  You will be accompanied to all events and guest faculty may join the group for on-site talks.  Selection of events will be subject to availability.

Cost Per Student:  $400
Maximum Number of First-Year Students:  10

BUDDHIST MONASTERY RETREAT        

Program Description:  Discover the culture and traditions of Buddhist meditation in a forested mountain retreat in upstate New York.  This event is intended for the student serious about wanting to immerse themselves in a completely different, meditative experience in preparation for their time at college.  You’ll have the opportunity to meet Buddhist monks, learn from them in formal instruction, observe them in their daily ritual, participate in some of those rituals, eat and live simply, and in the process, acquaint yourself with the state of mind and being cherished by this ancient tradition. 

Cost Per Student:  $325

SEE & SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY  (TRIP FULL)

Program Description: Show your compassion by sharing your strength!  Volunteer and help some of the local service organizations, while also exploring the greater Allentown community.  The experience is guaranteed to build solid relationships and a firm foundation as you prepare to enter your first year of college.  A worthwhile community service project presented in the spirit of the College.

Cost Per Student:  $250

NOTE: Due to their small group focus, Pre-Orientation Programs have limited availability.  When your registration is confirmed, you will receive complete details about the excursion as well as health forms and insurance disclaimers.  Under normal circumstances, Fall athletes cannot participate because of on-campus commitments. Please check with your coach.  A minimum number of students are required for each program.  Programs will be cancelled and fees refunded if the minimum number is not reached.  Monies will not be refunded to students withdrawing from programs after August 3rd.
