Mule Madness - Teams
Mule Madness kicks off March 10 and continues through April 6. Sixteen-teams will face-off in four single elimination brackets. Don’t miss out – make your gift today!
How do I make a gift?
Make your gift online at www.muhlenberg.edu/mulemadness and select "Mule Madness" in the gift designation; by phone at 1-800-859-2243; or send a check (made payable to Muhlenberg College) to: The Muhlenberg Fund, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
What does the winning team get?
The winning Mule Madness team will be named champion for the 2013-2014 season, have bragging rights for the remainder of the year and their team name will be engraved on the Mule Madness trophy on display in Memorial Hall.
I’m a senior-athlete, why should I make a gift?
Making a gift as a senior is a great way to give back to the team you’ve loved to play on – and it will increase your team’s participation. Plus, if all senior-athletes on a team make a gift to Mule Madness, the team will earn a pizza party generously sponsored by Director of Athletics, Corey Goff.
Can I support a specific team?
Of course! When you make your gift online, you will be asked to select from a drop-down box a team or area you wish to support. If you make a gift by mail, please note the designation of your gift on the check.
How long is Mule Madness?
Mule Madness kicks off March 10 and continues through April 6. Final rankings will be announced on April 9.
When will teams advance to the next round?
Participation will be counted for each team Friday of the previous week through Thursday of the next week, with the exception of week one, which will run from Monday, March 10 through Thursday, March 13. Winning teams from each bracket will be announced on Tuesdays beginning on March 18.
How is a team eliminated?
Sixteen-teams will face-off in four single elimination brackets between March 10 and April 6. The team from each bracket with the highest participation will advance to the next round. Teams slated for the championship can additionally be eliminated through the Wildcard Bid.

What is a bracket?
A bracket is a group of teams that your team is ultimately competing against to make it to the championship.
I am not a student-athlete, can I still participate?
Yes, we are happy to have you join the competition and are grateful for your support of Muhlenberg.
See also: “How are participation points earned?” (below) for additional information.
This is a cumulative participation challenge. While having the highest participation percentage in a given week in a specific bracket will advance your team to the next round, it does not mean that participation totals will be cleared at the end of each week. The team with the overall highest participation at the end of the competition will be named the winner.
A gift made by a student-athlete, alumni athlete or parent of a current student athlete will increase your team’s participation.
A gift made by an alumnus/e or a current student who is not an athlete, parent whose current student is not an athlete or other friend of the College can also count toward a designated team. For each of these groups, a combined 20 gifts will equal 1% participation for the designated team.
See also: “Can a team earn bonus points?” and “I’ve already made my annual gift, will it count toward my team?” for additional information.
Can I participate if I am not a new donor?
Yes! A gift made by a student-athlete, alumni athlete or parent of a current student athlete will count against the base for each team.
See also: “Can a team earn bonus points?” for additional information.
We are counting all prior gifts this fund year (July 1, 2013-March 9, 2014). Student athletes who have already made a gift in support of #MuleMentum or the Senior Class Connections Campaign will be grandfathered in and added to the donor counts during the first week of competition; teams whose head coach has already made a gift this fund year (July 1, 2013-March 9, 2014) will receive a 1% point bonus at the end of week one.

I’ve already made my gift to Mule Madness, how can I help my team win?
Encourage your teammates, friends and family to make a gift! Share the rankings, bracketology reports and video commentary on all of your social networks. If you’re an alumnus/ae, be sure to join ’Berg Alumni on Facebook to follow the competition and repost messages.
How do I know which team is winning?
Stay informed! Be sure to visit www.muhlenberg.edu/mulemadness each week for the latest rankings, bracketology reports and video commentary featuring Muhlenberg’s own varsity athletes and coaches.
My team was knocked out of a round, now what?
Student and alumni participation is important to the College, so continue to encourage your teammates, friends and family to make a gift; besides, just because your team is knocked out of a round does not mean the competition is over. There are two opportunities for a team previously knocked-out to re-enter the competition during a later round.
The 12 teams that do not advance to the remaining four teams are eligible for the single elimination Consolation Bracket, which will conclude on April 6 and follow an abbreviated competition schedule. The top four eliminated teams will receive an automatic bye for Round 1 of the Consolation Bracket.
Any team eliminated in Round 1 can still vie for a spot in the remaining four. If a team eliminated in Round 1 has a higher participation rate than another team already slotted for the remaining teams, the Wildcard team will knock that team out of the competition and take their place. Up to four teams can advance to the semifinals using the Wildcard Bid.
Yes, there are several ways a team can earn extra points.
