• Volleyball: Franklin & Marshall 3, Muhlenberg 1. Muhlenberg (14-7, 4-2) won the first game, but two-time defending Centennial Conference champion Franklin & Marshall (14-6, 6-1) stormed back to capture the next three and win an important Centennial Conference match.

The Mules had defeated two CC playoff teams from last year, Johns Hopkins and Haverford, in its previous two matches to move into contention. The win by the Diplomats was their ninth straight against Muhlenberg.

Junior Dana Ferrelli recorded kills on five straight swings in the first game and tied classmate Meaghan Billie for the team high with 12 for the match. Click here for box score.

• Men’s Soccer: Messiah 2, Muhlenberg 0. Messiah, the defending national champion and the top-ranked team in the country, scored two second-half goals to extended its winning streak to 30.

Muhlenberg (7-4) held the Falcons, who had been averaging more than five goals a game, scoreless through the first 45 minutes for only the second time this season. Messiah’s first goal came off an unlucky deflection early in the second half, and the second followed less than three minutes later. Click here for box score.

Freshman Rebecca Armstrong (right) slid a left-footed shot inside the far post with seven minutes left in sudden-death overtime to give Muhlenberg (12-2, 6-0) its school record-tying 10th straight win.

The win kept the Mules in a tie for first place in the Centennial Conference with Gettysburg, a 1-0 winner at Johns Hopkins. The two teams meet in a showdown Saturday at Muhlenberg, with the winner getting the inside track on hosting the CC Tournament at the end of the month.

Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 4-2), which had its 12-match home winning streak snapped, took a 1-0 lead in the first half on the first goal allowed by junior Kim Laurino in 710 minutes. Sophomore Sharon Seggel tied the game with her first career goal on a high arching shot midway through the second half.

The 10 straight wins ties a school record set in the 1998 (last eight) and 1999 (first two) seasons. The Mules had never won a sudden-death double-overtime before; they were 0-2-3 all-time in that situation.
