MULESELLANEOUS NOTES
Billie named player of week: Junior Meaghan Billie of the
Muhlenberg volleyball team has been named player of the week by the
Mens Soccer ranked: The Muhlenberg mens soccer team dropped to eighth in the Mid-Atlantic regional rankings after losing to Haverford and Johns Hopkins. Six of the 10 ranked teams in the region are from the Centennial Conference:
1. Messiah (10-0) The Muhlenberg womens soccer team, which had been ranked eighth in the region, dropped out of the rankings despite going 3-0 during the week. Thats because only seven teams were ranked this week. The Muhlenberg football team received one vote in the AFCA Division III poll. The Mules had received 10 votes before losing to the 15th-ranked team by three points in overtime. |
Mens Soccer: Muhlenberg 8, Centenary 0. Eight of the 10
field players in the starting lineup scored goals as Muhlenberg (6-3)
snapped its two-game losing skid in a big way against winless Centenary
(0-7).
Coincidentally, Muhlenbergs goalie in those two Widener games was Jon Henning, and his son, Justin Henning, a current sophomore, scored his first career goal against Centenary. Hennings goal was part of a three-goal flurry in a 44-second span late in the first half. Sophomore Evan Smallwood opened the floodgates by scoring his first goal of the season at the 17:47 mark. The outburst also featured spectacular goals by juniors Quentin McDowell, whose turnaround shot landed perfectly in the upper right-hand corner of the net, and David Vassilaros, who hit a rocket to the far post from inside the penalty box. Vassilaros, junior Ben Long and freshman Tim Sparta each finished with a goal and an assist. This was a good game for our forwards to get back into a rhythm, said Long, in reference to the Mules recent struggles to get off shots and score in their previous three games, all against regionally ranked Centennial Conference foes. Its something to build on. Field Hockey: Muhlenberg 2, Haverford 0. Second-half goals by junior Laura Diez and senior Sarah Stitzer propelled Muhlenberg to its third straight win. The victory enabled the Mules to even their record, overall (5-5) and in the Centennial Conference (2-2). Stitzer has now scored a point in four straight games. Junior Stephanie Harvilla assisted on the first goal for her first career point. Click here for box score. |
