Sophomore Courtney Levine and junior Michele Zito each scored her first career goal to contribute to the Mules second straight win. Muhlenberg opens defense of its 2000 Centennial Conference championship Saturday at Western Maryland. We needed the win, said Levine. We started out the season a little rough in Texas. Now we get to go into conference play with a strong win behind us. Iberer found the back of the net just 6:11 into the contest, heading in a cross from freshman Rebecca Armstrong. The same duo connected again less than 12 minutes later. Levines goal came after Iberer dropped a pass back to her on a breakaway. Sophomore Monica Jones and freshman Kim Klicka added goals before Zito completed the scoring. Levine, who hails from Northern New Jersey, said that the team was able to focus on the game despite the events near her hometown because of its closeness. The teams been amazing, she said. Weve held practices every day, so weve been together and had each other for support. We do everything as a team. Volleyball: Muhlenberg 3, Delaware Valley 0. Laura Funsten tallied 32 assists and 10 digs, while junior Dana Ferrelli added 17 digs and four service aces as Muhlenberg (7-3) defeated Delaware Valley, 3-0. The victory marked the Mules sixth straight, as well as their fifth straight shutout and 17th straight game won. Muhlenberg fell behind early, coming back from a 27-22 defecit in the first game to earn the 30-28 win. The Mules won the next two games handily, 30-23 and 30-12. Junior Meaghan Billie led Muhlenberg with 14 kills, while sophomore Kate Woodruff added 11 digs and four service aces. The Mules victory was the 25th in 29 matches against Delaware Valley. |
