WOMENS SOCCER BLANKS DEL VAL
Sophomore Dawn Iberer scored a goal for the fourth straight game as the Muhlenberg womens soccer team (6-2) extended its winning streak to four with a 3-0 win against Delaware Valley (2-2). The Mules have outscored their opponents 13-1 during the winning streak. Iberer converted a cross from the left side from freshman Rebecca Armstrong in the 11th minute to open the scoring. Midway through the first half, a blast by sophomore Courtney Levine found the upper left corner of the net to make it 2-0. With two of its regular starters unavailable, Muhlenberg inserted freshmen Jenn Arrow at sweeper and Kim Klicka at central midfield and was still able to control play for most of the game. The Mules outshot the Aggies, 18-8.
Two of the freshmen who played in a reserve role, Rachael Scott and Katie Macomber, combined for the final score of the game, with Scott recording her first career goal. Junior Kim Laurino and sophomore Jackie Gerard combined on the shutout for the Mules, who return to action Saturday with an important Centennial Conference match against Johns Hopkins. [This game] was wonderful, said Hawkins, a team co-captain. We really wanted to have a good game before Saturday. |
FIELD HOCKEY SHUTS OUT WILKES TO SNAP LOSING STREAK
Junior Holly Pico began the scoring midway through the first half when she scored her first goal of the year off a deflected shot by Stitzer. Not long into the second half, Stitzer found the back of the net for her first goal of the year on a pass from Bruschi directly in front of the Wilkes goal. Bruschi capped off the scoring when she made a nifty play to handle a high pass from senior Amy Yalch and direct the ball into the upper left corner of the net with 7:34 left in the game. It was her team-leading third goal of the season. Junior goalie Josephine Fasolino made 13 saves and recorded her second shutout of the season, making some tough stops while facing 14 Wilkes shots. Wilkes (5-2) had been averaging nearly three goals a game coming into tonights contest. |
