The Muhlenberg men’s soccer team moved up from fifth to fourth in the Mid-Atlantic regional rankings after its win at Gettysburg, which had been fourth. The Mules face games against Haverford (No. 5 region) and Johns Hopkins (No. 3 region, No. 19 nation) this week. Six of the top nine teams in the region are from the Centennial Conference:

• Football Up to 10 votes: The Muhlenberg football team received 10 votes in the AFCA national Division III poll, up from six last week. Western Maryland, the Mules’ next opponent, is ranked 15th

Senior Melissa Eicken assisted on the game-winning goal against Delaware Valley.

Freshman Kristen Bruschi’s team-leading fourth goal of the season, in the final minute of the first half, turned out to be the game-winner as Muhlenberg (3-5) came back to defeat Delaware Valley (4-5) in a non-league field hockey game.

The Mules scored four unanswered goals after the Aggies took a 1-0 lead with 12:18 left in the half. Junior Laura Diez got the ball rolling with her first goal of the season at the 5:20 mark.

Bruschi’s goal gave Muhlenberg the lead for good. The score was 2-1 for most of the second half, but the Mules put the game away late by scoring twice off of penalty corners 49 seconds apart.

Junior Holly Pico and senior Sarah Stitzer both scored for the second straight game. Pico added an assist.

• Women’s Tennis: Moravian 6, Muhlenberg 3. In its first match of the fall season, Muhlenberg fell into an early hole and couldn’t quite climb out. Moravian, which plays its regular season in the fall, won all three doubles matches. The Mules got singles wins from sophomores Gena Ross (No. 1) and Sarah Niebler (No. 6) and freshman Emily Oster (No. 4). In the other three matches, one went to a third set and the other two had one set go to a tiebreaker. Click here for box score.
