For the second straight game, freshman Kim Klicka scored the game-winning goal as the Muhlenberg womens soccer team defeated Wilkes, 3-1. Jamie Gluck and Dawn Iberer also added goals for the Mules, who improve to 2-1 on the season. Wilkes took the early lead just 8:19 into the game when Lyndsey McWilliams scored off a header from an assist by Holly Shiber. Muhlenberg tied the score only 59 seconds later when Gluck scored from straight out beyond the circle with a shot that just sailed above the goalies outstretched arms. Klicka broke the halftime tie when she scored off a header from a cross pass from Jennifer Gitto. I feel really great right now, said Klicka. It is a nice feeling to break the ice and calm my freshman nerves by being able to help the team and make contributions. Klicka, who also scored the game-winning goal in Muhlenbergs 1-0 win at Schreiner, went on to say, This is a supportive team who pushes you to be the best, and it is a good environment for success. Kims sister, Jill, was a soccer player on Wilkes, where she scored two goals against Muhlenberg in 1999. Iberer secured the victory for the Mules by scoring on a breakaway from the right side of the net with a little less than two minutes to play. It was a game mostly dominated Muhlenberg, particularly in its 19-3 shot advantage. Click here for box score. |
