GALLAGHER PLACES THIRD AT LEHIGH VALLEY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Junior Brendan Gallagher placed third out of 78 runners with a time of 26:41.2 at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Championships, which is run on the home course of Lehigh. Gallaghers successful race helped the Mules place fifth out of seven teams. Sophomore Rob Uniszkiewicz was second on Muhlenberg, placing 16th overall with a time of 27:28.7, while sophomore Brian Cash came in third for the Mules with an overall place of 31st and a time of 27:57.2. For the women, senior Katie Garrett led the way, placing 17th overall with a time of 23:51.6. As a team, the Mules placed sixth out of seven teams. Sophomores Erica Norey and Diana Garretto and freshman Jenna Belisonzi also placed in the top half of the races 84 runners for Muhlenberg. Click here for box score. |
Womens Soccer Falls to Scranton
The Muhlenberg volleyball and mens soccer teams swept
through the first day of their respective tournaments and will play for
championships tomorrow.
Volleyball: Muhlenberg 3, Albright 0; Muhlenberg 3, Arcadia
0. The Mules recorded two three-game sweeps to win Pool A of the
Buttermaker Tournament.
In Muhlenbergs first match, they overwhelmed Albright, 30-11, 30-11,
30-21. The Mules were led by senior Laura Funstens 20 assists and
five service aces. Junior Lisa Giammalvo also added nine kills and Dana
Ferrelli contributed nine kills and six digs.
In the second match, Muhlenberg again dominated, this time sweeping
Arcadia, 30-21, 30-18, 30-23. Once again, Funsten paced the Mules with 30
assists and seven digs, while sophomore Maria Polukia contributed 17
digs. Sophomore Kate Woodruff tallied 13 digs and junior Dana Ferrelli
provided 11 kills and three service aces.
Muhlenberg will play for the championship tomorrow, looking to win the
Buttermaker Tournament for the fourth time in four years.

Mens Soccer: Muhlenberg 2, Oswego State 0. Junior Kevin
Welding scored the game-winning goal with only a little under four minutes
remaining in the game to break a scoreless tie and give Muhlenberg (2-0)
a win over Oswego (2-1) in the first day of games in the Kwik Goal/T.G.I.
Fridays Classic.
After a scoreless first half full of great defensive play, Welding scored
his first goal of the season off a steal
he created right in front of the Oswego net. Junior David Vassilaros
scored his first goal on an assist from Evan Smallwood only 22 seconds
later to
secure the 2-0 victory for the Mules.
It was both a physical and emotional game, with five yellow cards and one
red card being issued during the course of the game. Muhlenberg outshot
Oswego, 14-4.
Muhlenberg will face No. 17 Drew
tomorrow night for the championship, as Drew defeated Frostburg State 1-0
in overtime in the other mens matchup.

Womens Soccer: Scranton 3, Muhlenberg 0. For the third
time in four years, Scranton toppled Muhlenberg in the Kwik
Goal/T.G.I.Fridays Classic. Scranton (3-1) scored three goals in the
second half to overcome Muhlenberg (2-2), erasing a scoreless first half
that was very evenly played.
Although
the Mules outshot Scranton, they could not find the back of the net
against a tough Royals' defense. Rhode Island College and Oswego
State played to a scoreless tie in the other women's matchup.
