With Muhlenberg observing its Fall Break and most teams at or just past the halfway point in their seasons, we asked athletes to grade their teams performance to date. Tomorrow: Field Hockey and Volleyball. Football: B Muhlenberg started 4-0 for the first time since 1983 and earned its highest ranking ever (28th) in the Division III poll before suffering a 35-14 loss at McDaniel last weekend. The Mules are 12th in Division III in scoring offense, averaging 40.8 points per game, and rank fourth with a plus-13 turnover margin. Since weve won four out of five, I would give our team a B, said senior quarterback Justin Jones. We have a lot of talent on the team and we beat some good teams so far. Unfortunately, we lost to a good team in Maryland, but we still have our heads up for the rest of the season and are excited to get better every week.
Each game gives you a chance to get better and learn from your mistakes you made in the previous games. So our most important game is always our next game. Every win during the season is significant, but if I would have to pick [the most significant], it would be Cal Lutheran. We were very excited to avenge our loss from last year and it gave us a lot of confidence. |
MENS SOCCER BEATS SECOND STRAIGHT RANKED OPPONENT
Freshman Jose Ramirez scored with 1:44 remaining in the first overtime
The win was the second in five days against a regionally ranked opponent for the Mules (9-5, 3-2), who nipped Elizabethtown by a 1-0 score on Tuesday. The Shoremen (6-5-1, 2-3) entered the week ranked 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region. On the game-winning goal, Ramirez took a pass from senior David Vassilaros. Washington goalkeeper Ryan Miller came out to challenge the shot, but Ramirez slipped the ball past him and into the net. Sophomore Chris Davis made five saves to record his eighth shutout of the season. Muhlenberg improved its all-time record against Washington to 14-0-2. The only school the Mules have played more often without a loss is Lebanon Valley (17-0-2). Six of the Mules nine wins this season have come by a 1-0 score. Field Hockey Postponed: The scheduled field hockey game at 11th-ranked McDaniel was postponed due to poor field conditions. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 15 at 1:00. |
