Junior Evan Smallwood of the Muhlenberg men’s soccer team has been named co-player of the week by the Centennial Conference for the second time in his career.

Smallwood, who shared the honor with Johns Hopkins midfielder Daniel Brienza, was cited after contributing to the Mules’ back-to-back 1-0 wins against regionally ranked opponents Elizabethtown and Washington. He was part of a defense that conceded only one corner kick in the two games, and he also scored the lone goal against the Blue Jays.

The two wins put Muhlenberg back into the regional rankings for the first time since the first week of the season. The Mules, 10th in the region, travel to Drew (third in the region, 18th in the country) on Tuesday.

In women’s soccer, Muhlenberg junior forward Dawn Iberer was named to the CC Weekly Honor Roll. Iberer scored twice in the Mules’ 5-0 shutout of Bryn Mawr.

The Muhlenberg men’s golf team finished in third place – its best showing of the fall season – at the Muhlenberg Fall Classic.

Tricky winds and fast greens at Lehigh Country Club drove most of the scores up, but the Mules had an excellent team score of 315. Gettysburg and York both shot a 312, with the Bullets taking home the first-place trophy on the fifth-man tiebreaker.

Muhlenberg walked away with two of the three individual trophies. Freshman Brian Farrelly, who was third with a 75 two weeks ago at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Classic, shot another 75 to finish in second place, three strokes off the lead.

Senior Todd Scolnick tied a Gettysburg golfer at 76, but was awarded third place on a match of cards. He shot an even-par four on the 18th hole, while the Bullet golfer double-bogeyed the hole.
