Women’s Cross Country: A+

in the top 10 in 11 straight meets in which it fielded its top runners.

“If I could give the team a midseason grade it would definitely be an A+,” said junior co-captain Stephanie Melka. “Despite our youth as a team and small size, the eight of us have bonded together and exceeded the expectations of many, even though it is halfway through the season.

“In my opinion our most successful meet this season was the NYU invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. We had one runner, freshman Karen Mount, finish 10th, leading the team to a ninth-place finish. Another successful race was our home meet, the Mule/Falcon Invite. The team took second overall.

“The entire group has a great sense of teamwork and wonderful work ethic, and I’m sure performances in the future will reflect this.”

• Field Hockey: For the second straight Tuesday, the Muhlenberg field hockey team lost to a nationally ranked opponent, as No. 11 McDaniel scored with 1:10 remaining in the first overtime for a 2-1 win in a makeup of Saturday’s rainout.

The Mules (9-4, 1-2), who fell to 12th-ranked Susquehanna last Tuesday, took a lead on the top defensive team in the Centennial Conference when sophomore Kristen Bruschi redirected a pass from junior Lauren Jacobs midway through the second half for her 11th goal of the season. It was only the 10th goal allowed by McDaniel all season.

The Green Terror (11-2, 3-1) tied the score less than three minutes later en route to its first win against Muhlenberg since 1996.

• Men’s Soccer: In a clash between regionally ranked teams, the Drew men’s soccer team made a first-half goal stand up and defeated Muhlenberg, 1-0.

The Rangers (11-1-1) entered the game third in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 18th in Division III, while the Mules (9-6) are 10th in the region.

Muhlenberg enjoyed a 7-5 advantage in shots in the second half, but could not put one of the shots in the back of the net. The Mules have played eight 1-0 games this season, including three in a row, and all but two of their games have resulted in a shutout. There have been only 29 goals scored in the team’s 15 matches.

All six of Muhlenberg’s losses are to teams that have been regionally ranked this year. The Mules are 5-6 against such teams.
