Senior defensive end Mike Koth helped the Mules control the line of scrimmage against Hopkins. |
The entire defensive unit of the Muhlenberg football team has been named
players of the week by the Centennial Conference for its performance in
the
Mules 23-10 win at previously undefeated Johns Hopkins yesterday.
No player had standout statistics, primarily because the defense was on the field for only 46 plays. The Mules held the second-ranked rushing attack in the CC to 32 yards on 21 attempts, forced four turnovers, allowed only seven first downs and permitted no conversions in 10 third-down tries. The Muhlenberg defense was particularly dominating in the first half, giving up only 34 yards and a single first down. The defensive players of the week will get to face the offensive player of the week this coming Saturday. Gettysburg quarterback Joe Gossweiler took the honor after rushing for 122 yards and passing for 120 in a 29-27 win against Ursinus. Elsewhere in the CC, McDaniel blanked Dickinson, 20-0, and Franklin & Marshall dropped a non-conference game to Hobart, 35-21. The standings:
