Sophomore midfielder Katie Macomber of the Muhlenberg women’s soccer team has been named player of the week by the Centennial Conference.

Macomber picked an opportune time to record her first career goal, scoring in the 13th minute to give the Mules a 1-0 lead against Gettysburg. Muhlenberg went on to win, 2-0, for its first victory ever at Gettysburg.

The win helped put Muhlenberg in the regional rankings for the first time this season. The Mules are eighth in the region, and of their five Division III losses, three are to teams ranked ahead of them.

The six-goal output was the largest of the season for the Mules (11-6).

Hochkeppel recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career at Delaware Valley. He leads the Mules with five goals this season.

After scoring only 14 goals in its first 15 games, the team has exploded for 10 in the last two.

Like Hochkeppel, sophomores Timothy Sparta and Nick Richardson scored for the second straight game. Freshmen Jose Ramirez and James Henshaw also netted goals.

Junior Brendon McKeown played the entire game in goal to post his first career shutout.

The Aggies (3-13) represented a breather in the schedule for the Mules, who had not played a team with an under-.500 record since Sept. 13. In the 10 games in between, Muhlenberg’s opponents came in with a combined record of 57-18-13 (.722).

• Field Hockey: Swarthmore 1, Muhlenberg 0. An early goal by Swarthmore stood up to send the Mules (10-5, 2-3) to defeat in the final game of their three-week-long road trip.

Muhlenberg went 3-3 in its six consecutive road games and will close it the regular season with four straight home games, beginning this Saturday. The Mules have not played at home since Sept. 28.
