• Women’s Soccer: Muhlenberg 6, Washington 1. Sophomore Rebecca Armstrong recorded her first career hat trick and junior Dawn Iberer tied a school record as the Mules (10-6, 7-1) breezed to their sixth straight win.

Muhlenberg has won 19 consecutive Centennial Conference home games and has reached double figures in wins each of the last six seasons. Only a Washington (7-10, 2-7) goal with seconds remaining in the first half prevented the Mules from tying a school record with their fifth straight shutout.

Armstrong scored once in the first half and twice in the second to post the 12th hat trick in Muhlenberg women’s soccer history.

Iberer opened the scoring in the 13th minute, tying a school record with her 44th career goal. She assisted on Armstrong’s first goal to become the second player in team history with 100 career points.

Junior Courtney Levine had a goal and two assists, and freshman Lara Swanson scored her first career goal.

• Men’s Soccer: Muhlenberg 2, Swarthmore 0. Goals by sophomore Timothy Sparta and senior David Vassilaros, one in each half, gave the Mules (12-6, 5-2) a season-best three-game winning streak and their 11th shutout win of the season.

Sparta sent a shot through the Swarthmore (5-10-1, 0-6) goalie’s legs in the sixth minute to give Muhlenberg the early lead. It was the third straight game in which he scored a goal.

Senior Laura Diez rifled in a rebound from the left side of the net with 2:28 left to give the Muhlenberg field hockey team a dramatic 2-1 win over defending Centennial Conference champion Gettysburg.

The Mules (11-5, 3-3) took an early lead when sophomore Kristen Bruschi scored her team-leading 13th goal of the season just 3:16 into the game. The two points gave Bruschi 30 for the season, making her the eighth player in team history to reach that level.

The lead stood up for most of the game, as Muhlenberg did not permit the Bullets (3-11, 2-3) to take any shots the entire first half. Gettysburg went on the offensive in the second half, finally tying the score after a flurry of shots with fewer than 10 minutes remaining.

Diez’ third goal of the season gave the Mules a win in their first home game in nearly a month.

• Volleyball: Muhlenberg was swept by Carnegie Mellon and Gettysburg to finish 0-4 at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament. The Mules (13-20) close out the season with two matches this week.

• Men’s Cross Country: Muhlenberg took a team of runners who will not be competing at the NCAA Mideast Regional to the Gettysburg Invitational. The Mules finished 32nd out of 34 teams. Senior Ethan Fearn was the team’s top finisher. Click here for box score.

Junior Matt Bernardo rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns and senior Chris Reed set a Centennial Conference record for field goals as the Muhlenberg football team shut out Gettysburg by a 41-0 score for a third straight year.

This marks the first time the Mules (6-1, 4-1) have shut out the same team for three consecutive years since they blanked Albright from 1946 to 1948. They had never shut out the same team by the same score three straight times.

The closest the Bullets (3-4, 1-3) came to scoring occurred late in the third quarter, when they had a first-and-goal at the 10 but were stopped on the 7-yard line on fourth down.

Bernardo rolled up 97 yards (more than the entire Gettysburg team) in the first half alone as Muhlenberg opened up a 20-0 lead at the break. Senior Justin Jones, who completed his first eight passes and finished 12-of-18 for 177 yards, opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run to cap the first drive of the game.

Late in the first quarter, Reed booted a field goal from 40 yards to increase the lead to 10-0. Reed added a 44-yarder midway through the second half, setting school and CC records with 13 field goals on the season. He also extended his school-record streak for consecutive extra points to 35.

Senior Alfredo Mercuri hauled in a 51-yard pass from Jones in the second quarter to score a touchdown for the third consecutive game.

Senior linebacker Beau Sherry (11 tackles) and junior linebacker Keith Van Fleet (10 tackles, including a sack) led the Muhlenberg defensive effort. Senior cornerback Jordan Wright intercepted a pass and forced a fumble that the Mules recovered, and senior defensive end Mike Koth had two tackles for loss.
