Womens Soccer Drops Fifth
Messiah, ranked 11th in Division III, erupted for five goals in the second half to hand the Muhlenberg womens soccer team a 5-1 loss. The Mules (2-5) took a lead in the 24th minute when junior Dawn Iberer converted a pass from classmate Courtney Levine for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. It was the first time all season the Falcons (6-0) trailed in a game. With 84 career points, Iberer is just two away from tying for second on the programs all-time list. |
VOLLEYBALL WINS REMATCH WITH SCRANTON
Freshman Julie Lauro had 15 kills and five blocks to lead the Muhlenberg volleyball team to a 3-1 win against Scranton. The victory came just five days after the Mules (6-9) lost to the same Lady Royal team in four games. We finally played as a team instead of as individuals, said
Muhlenberg had 13 blocks in the match, with senior Lisa Giammalvo also recording five and senior Meaghan Billie four to go along with her 10 kills. After winning the first two games and dropping the third, the Mules trailed 16-14 in the fourth when a Scranton serve appeared to hit the floor for an ace. But the ball actually hit Lauros sneaker, and while the Lady Royals were celebrating, Muhlenberg sent the ball back over the net for a point. Scranton still led, 17-16, when Leigh took over service and ran off six straight points to put the Mules ahead to stay. The first three points came on three consecutive aces. Coach tries to tell us where to serve the ball, and that definitely helps, noted Leigh, who tied a school record with 69 aces last year. Aces feel good. We like them. The win gives Muhlenberg a good feeling as it begins defense of its 2001 Centennial Conference regular-season co-championship this weekend. We had a rough start to this year, said Leigh. But this solidified that were back. |
