Senior kicker Chris Reed of the Muhlenberg football team has been named co-player of the week by the Centennial Conference after breaking three school records and tying another in the Mules’ 54-3 season-opening win against Kings Point.

With four field goals and six extra points, Reed set school records for points in a game (18, also a CC record) and a career (123) by a kicker, as well as extra points in a career (81). His four field goals tied a school and CC record.

Reed’s 49-yard field goal in the second quarter tied for the third-longest in school history and was the longest by a Muhlenberg kicker in 20 years. He also set up a touchdown when his fourth-quarter kickoff was fumbled in the end zone and recovered by the Mules.

Reed shared the offensive honor with halfback Nick Nocar of Gettysburg, who carried 13 times for a career-high 155 yards, caught three passes for 51 yards and threw a 44-yard pass on a halfback option in the 31-10 win at Lebanon Valley. The defensive player of the week was Franklin & Marshall end Chris Gallino, a star of the Diplomats’ 13-6 win against Oberlin.

Elsewhere in CC football, 2001 Division III runner-up Bridgewater scored a late touchdown to slip past McDaniel, 23-20; Juniata defeated Dickinson, 26-9; and Washington & Jefferson toppled Ursinus, 63-20.

Moravian’s Jim Feimster blasted in a direct kick from just outside the penalty box with 16:10 to play for the game-winning goal as the Greyhounds (2-1-1) captured the Kwik Goal/T.G.I.Friday’s Classic with a 2-1 win against Muhlenberg.

The Mules came very close to tying the game twice in the final minute. First, a shot by senior Tom Hartey got past the Moravian goalie but was deflected away by a defender. On the ensuing corner kick, Muhlenberg put the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed because of an offside call.

Senior Michael Hochkeppel scored the Mules’s lone goal on a shot from the top of the penalty box, tying the score at 1-1 in the 70th minute.

Feimster was named tournament MVP.
