The No. 14 Muhlenberg field hockey team kicked off Homecoming weekend with a 3-0 win over Dickinson at Scotty Wood Stadium.

into a tie for third in Mule history with 38 career goals. LisaAnn Polt put in Muhlenberg’s other goal, her third of the year.

The Mules (10-2, 2-2) needed to win after a disappointing performance in a Centennial Conference loss a week ago at Johns Hopkins.

“We knew that wasn’t our best game and that we could do better,” Polt said. “This boosts our confidence a lot.”

In a game of midfield battles and few scoring chances, the Mules went ahead on only the second shot of the game, nearly 20 minutes into play. Sophomore Alexa Sterbinsky took the ball into the circle and was fouled by Red Devil goalkeeper Iva Liou, resulting in a penalty stroke for the Mules. Bruschi took the stroke and beat Liou to the goalie's right side.

Sterbinsky, nursing an injury, was out of the the starting lineup for the first time this season. That cleared the way for Polt’s first career start. She made it 2-0 when she poked the ball past Liou after Kate Moyer sent the ball in front of the net. The assist was Moyer’s first career point.

Polt, whose three goals and seven points rank third on the team, has been pleasantly surprised by her early success.

“It feels good to contribute,” said Polt. “I feel like part of the team. I love it.”

Bruschi scored her 14th goal of the season with less than three minutes remaining. Sophomore Steph Light found Bruschi with a pass in front of the net. Bruschi pulled the ball past a defender and ripped a shot past Liou.

The shutout was the fifth of the season for Muhlenberg. Dickinson (5-7, 2-3) has lost two straight. Six of the Devils’ seven losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents.
