Volleyball Defeated in Homecoming Match
Playing its first home match in nearly a month, the Muhlenberg volleyball team was swept by Moravian in three games. The Mules (7-11) played catch-up most of the night and made little headway against a strong Greyhound team (13-2) whose only losses are to the top-ranked (Juniata) and 26th-listed (Eastern) teams in Division III. After leading briefly (10-7) at the start of the first game, Muhlenberg strung together more than two consecutive points only once the rest of the match. That came in the third game, when the Mules cut a 13-7 deficit to 13-12 behind the serving of Kate Haggerty. Moravian quickly opened up a big lead again, however, and finished off the match. Haggerty and Julie Lauro led the Muhlenberg attack with nine kills apiece. One of Lauros was the 700th of her career. The Moravian win evened up the Matte Award standings at 2-2. Upcoming Matte contests are in womens soccer (Oct. 27 at Moravian), football (Nov. 15 at Muhlenberg) and womens and mens cross country (Nov. 15 at Dickinson). Muhlenberg opens up Centennial Conference play with a home tri-match against McDaniel and Swarthmore on Saturday. |
