FOUR MAKE CROSS COUNTRY ALL-REGION
Loesch Makes Impressive Debut
WRESTLING NINTH AT KING’S

Muhlenberg freshman Matt Loesch made a grand entry into collegiate wrestling, winning the 197-pound class at the Monarch Invitational, the Mules’ first meet of the season.

Muhlenberg finished ninth out of 14 teams.

Loesch won all four of his bouts, starting with a pin and wrapping up his title with a major decision over Jeff Malone of York in the championship final.

Senior heavyweight Josh Carter also reached the final, but was pinned and had to settle for second place.

Junior Jeremy Hart (141) and sophomore Dale Mills (149) both went 3-2 and advanced to the consolation semifinals. Hart hung tough in dropping a 6-3 decision to Jim Morgan of King’s, the top-ranked 141-pounder in Division III.

Hotz Finishes in Top 10

Four Muhlenberg runners earned all-region honors as the cross country teams closed out their season at the NCAA Mideast Regional, hosted by Dickinson. The Mule men finished 11th and women 13th.

Sophomore Alexander Hotz missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by one spot, finishing in 10th place. That ties Will Elson’s placing last year as the highest finish ever by a Muhlenberg runner at the regionals. Senior Rob Uniszkiewicz was 29th, earning a spot on the all-region team for the third year in a row.

Junior Jenna Belisonzi and sophomore Karen Mount crossed the finish line one after the other, in 16th and 17th places, respectively. It was the second year in a row on the all-region team for Mount, and Belisonzi’s finish was the best for a Mule since Amanda Wachter was seventh in 1992.

In the Matte Award competition, the cross country teams split, with the men finishing ahead of Moravian and the women behind. Combined with the football win, that gives Muhlenberg a 4½-3½ lead in the 2003-04 Matte standings heading into the winter season.
