For the second straight week, senior Matt Bernardo
of the Muhlenberg football team has been named offensive player of the
Bernardo carried 42 times for 226 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the Mules to a 26-15 victory at Gettysburg, clinching a share of Muhlenbergs third straight CC title. It was his third career 200-yard effort and the sixth-best single-game performance in school history. Bernardo has earned the CC honor six times in his career and in both games since returning from an injury. He is averaging 122.8 yards per game and has moved into a tie for 12th place on the all-time Division III scoring list with 378 career points. The Mules (5-2, 5-1) have won five games in a row and five CC offensive player-of-the-week awards in a row. In addition to Bernardo, Kodi Shay was honored twice and Tom Kelleher once. McDaniel (4-4, 4-1) and Johns Hopkins (8-1, 4-1) stayed alive for the CC title with wins against Franklin & Marshall (21-7) and Ursinus (49-10), respectively. Both teams will take 4-1 league records into the regular-season finale at McDaniel on Nov. 15. The Green Terror can earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a win, while a Blue Jay victory would put the Mules into the NCAAs for the second year in a row. In a non-CC game, Dickinson (2-6, 0-4) nearly upset 25th-ranked Hampden-Sydney, falling by a 21-20 margin. |
