VOLLEYBALL SPLITS AT SCRANTON
One heartbreaking loss and one four-game win put the Muhlenberg volleyball team into the Purple Division of the Scranton Invitational.

The Mules (5-6) finished second in their pool and will play on Saturday with fellow second-place schools Montclair State, Elizabethtown and City College of New York.

Muhlenberg came very close to winning its pool. The Mules took the first game against Wilkes, dropped the next two, then forced a fifth game by eking out a 31-29 victory. But for the second time this season, they fell by a two-point margin in the decisive fifth game.

The team recovered to defeat William Paterson in four games.

Freshman Kate Haggerty had an outstanding evening, recording 18 kills in each of the two matches, including eight kills on only 10 attempts in the fourth game of the Paterson match. She added a career-high 22 digs against Paterson. Sophomore Julie Lauro broke her own school record with 31 kills in the William Paterson match (corrected on Sept. 13), while freshman Courtney Williams notched a career-high seven kills against Wilkes.
