WOMEN’S TENNIS OPENS AT SWAT

The Muhlenberg women’s tennis team opened its fall season at the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend.

The four-team tournament featured tough competition in defending Centennial Conference champion Swarthmore, Division II Millersville and Division I Delaware.

The singles format consisted of four flights, with two groups playing a round robin within each flight. The five doubles flights each had a single-elimination tournament.

The Mules did not fare very well, as only sophomore Catherine Denenberg, in the second group of Flight 4, came away with a winning record (2-1).

No. 1 singles player Gena Ross split sets with the two-time CC player of the year from Swarthmore, then dropped the third set on a super tiebreaker. Ross then defeated Millersville’s top player in three sets.
