FOOTBALL GAME POSTPONED
MULES RANK AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS

Muhlenberg teams and athletes rank among the national leaders in several categories early in the 2003 season. All statistics are through games of last weekend.

In field hockey, the undefeated Mules are tied for the lead in winning percentage (1.000) and tied for ninth in scoring defense (0.40 goals per game). Junior Kristen Bruschi is tied for sixth in goals Chris Davis (seven), and freshman goalie Lauren Schram ranks 13th in goals-against average (0.40).

Defense is repsonsible for both of the men’s soccer team’s appearances in the national rankings. Junior Chris Davis (left) is 12th in goals-against average (0.23), and the team is tied for 13th (0.20).

Although it has only played one game, the football team shows up three times among the statistical leaders. The Mules are 13th in pass efficiency defense, with a 55.3 ranking, and junior Dan Walker is tied for ninth in tackles per game (15.0). Senior Kodi Shay is tied for fifth in Division III with his kickoff-return average of 49.0.

Due to the anticipated effects of Hurricane Isabel, Muhlenberg’s football game at Christopher Newport scheduled for Saturday, September 20, has been postponed one day to Sunday, September 21. The time for opening kickoff remains 1:00.

Christopher Newport is located in Newport News, Va., right on the Chesapeake Bay and about 200 miles north of the North Carolina coast where Isabel is expected to make landfall. The city is currently under a hurricane warning.

When the game is finally played, it will match two teams that were their conference’s representatives to the NCAA Tournament last year. Muhlenberg shared the Centennial Conference title and advanced to the second round of the NCAAs, while Christopher Newport won the Dixie (now USA South) Conference before falling to Washington & Jefferson in an NCAA first-round game.

The Mules dropped their season-opening game at Kings Point, 22-14, two weeks ago. The Captains split their first two contests, falling to Rowan, 21-0, before edging defending Centennial Conference co-champion McDaniel, 7-6.

The game will be available on the Internet in two places. Justin Deutsch will call the game live on WMUH 91.7 FM. Click here to listen in Real Audio. CNU will have a webcast using Quick Time audio. Click here for the webcast page. The game will be broadcast live and archived on the same page so that the broadcast can be heard at a later date.
