After defeating eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday night, the Muhlenberg men’s soccer team has moved back into the national rankings for the first time since 1999, and Jose Ramirez sophomore Jose Ramirez, who scored two goals in the big win, has been named player of the week by the Centennial Conference.

The Mules, who at 6-1 are off to their best start since 1995, jumped from seventh to second in the Mid-Atlantic Region rankings and entered the national top 25 at No. 16. Muhlenberg was last ranked in the top 25 early in the 1999 season, when it was 18th.

Elizabethtown jumped from sixth to first in the region after defeating third-ranked Drew and 2001 national champion Richard Stockton. Hopkins, which had its 29-match Centennial Conference winning streak snapped, slipped to a tie for third in the region, while defending national champion Messiah, the next opponent for the Mules, fell into a tie for fifth following its 3-1 loss to Stevens Tech.

Ramirez scored the first and third goals of the Johns Hopkins game, and also had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 shutout of Moravian earlier in the week. He ranks fourth in the CC with 11 points in six games.
