Senior Kristen Bruschi added another record to her collection, combining with sophomore Sara Levin for two second-half goals as the Muhlenberg field hockey team kicked off Homecoming weekend with a 3-0 shutout of defending Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins.

After a scoreless first half that was evenly played (Muhlenberg had a 3-1 advantage in shots but the Blue Jays took all four penalty corners), the Mules dominated the second half. Except for one flurry in the first 10 minutes, Hopkins (2-7, 0-2) was on the defensive against an aggressive Muhlenberg (7-3, 2-1) squad.

Almost 12 minutes into the half, the Mules wanted a penalty stroke after a scramble in front of the cage, but got a penalty corner instead. They scored anyway, as Levin deflected in Bruschi’s play of a loose ball.

The assist gave Bruschi 16 for her career, tying the school record set by Carole Caine (1997-2000).

Midway through the half, Bruschi redirected a free hit from junior Steph Light to make the score 2-0, and she converted Levin’s pass with a reverse sweep late in the game to round out the scoring.

Sophomore Lauren Schram made three saves for her 10th career shutout, and senior Pamela Coakley played an outstanding game on defense.
