Rain Wipes Out Two Events

Like Hurricane Ivan 10 days ago, Hurricane Jeanne caused the Muhlenberg athletic schedule to be shuffled.

The home field hockey game against Haverford was pushed back a night to Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 7:00.

The women’s soccer match at Swarthmore also was rained out. The makeup date is yet to be determined.

Late Starts Cripple Volleyball

Strong comeback efforts could not overcome slow starts in all three games and the Muhlenberg volleyball team was swept by Haverford in its first home match in 17 days.

The Mules (6-9, 0-2) fell into a 15-6 hole in all three games. In the first game, they rallied to get the score to 29-28 before the Fords (10-6, 1-1) scored the winning point. Muhlenberg closed to within 27-24 in Game 2, but Haverford put away the final three points.

The Game 3 deficit grew to 19-7 before the Mules ran off nine points in a row. They eventually cut the margin to two (23-21), but once again the Fords pulled away.

Juniors Julie Lauro and Jen Weist put up big numbers in defeat. Lauro had 19 kills (three short of the school record), and Weist recorded 29 digs, including 11 in the second game.
