Mens Soccer, Volleyball Defeated
MENS SOCCER The Mules (8-4, 3-2) had not lost on the weekend this season and had not allowed a goal to the Red Devils (10-4, 3-3) since 1999. Senior Adam Milberg broke up the shutout by converting a penalty kick with 27:56 remaining.
VOLLEYBALL Junior Kate Haggerty amassed 20 kills in the two matches, including 14 against Southwestern. Senior Jen Weist notched 25 digs in the latter match. |
Senior Karen Mount finished first out of 245 runners to lead the
Muhlenberg womens cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the
DeSales Invitational.
The Mule men also were fifth out of 23 squads. For both Muhlenberg teams, it was the final major race before the Centennial Conference Championships. On a course made muddy and slippery by a weeks worth of rain, Mount ran the 6 kilometers in 24:41.96, nearly 12 seconds ahead of the second-place runner, a Division II runner from Kutztown. It was the second gold medal this season for Mount (right), who also took first at the Mule/Falcon Classic in a field of half the size. In five races this season, she has finished first twice and third, sixth and eighth once apiece. The mens team was paced by junior Steve Rothwell, who came in 10th for his fourth top-10 finish of the season. Senior Patrick Breault did a nice job stepping into Muhlenbergs No. 5 position, closing the gap the team had last week at Johns Hopkins.
