Johnny Elefterakis hit a long three-pointer with 3.9 seconds left to give the Haverford mens basketball team a thrilling 66-63 win against
The loss spoiled the Mules bid to start a season 4-0 for the first time in nine years. In a tight game in which neither team led by more than six points, Muhlenberg (3-1, 0-1) took a 61-60 lead when junior Justin Fields hit both ends of a one-and-one with 1:07 to play. Elefterakis three-pointer - his first in eight attempts - 15 seconds later gave the Fords (2-2, 1-0) a 63-61 edge. The Mules tied the score on junior Tom Scotts tipin with 25 seconds on the clock, setting the stage for the game-winning 25-footer. Scott could only manage an off-balance three-pointer at the final buzzer. Fields and freshman Michael Bernardini fueled Muhlenbergs best run of the game, a 9-0 spurt that turned a five-point deficit into a 55-51 lead at the seven-minute mark. Bernardini scored six of his career-high eight points and Fields had two steals and basket in the run. Senior Jimmy OBrien led the Mules with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Scott finished with 12 points. |
