The Mules (5-1) entered the game ranked 13th in Division III and second in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Bulldogs (6-1) are sixth in the region.

DeSales headed in a direct kick with 15 minutes left in the first half. Muhlenberg had an 11-3 advantage in shots, but put only three of the shots on goal and was called for offside eight times.

FIELD HOCKEY
After a two-week, four-game road stretch, the Muhlenberg field hockey team was happy to return home to defeat Drew, 1-0.

The Mules (5-3), who snapped their three-game losing skid, dominated a Ranger (4-2) team that had averaged four goals in winning its last three games. Muhlenberg had a 25-1 advantage in shots, scoring its lone goal when sophomore Jillian Duffy put in a cross from classmate Nikki Rhoads early in the second half.

“It’s nice to finally get a win and finish a game,” said Duffy. “The losses made us want it even more. The win will bring up our confidence for conference games.”

The Mules’ 10 remaining games are all Centennial Conference contests, beginning at home against McDaniel on Saturday.

Henning became the 12th Mule with 100 career aces.

At 8-2, the Mules are off to their best start since the 1994 team went 10-1.

Aces were the name of the game as the Mules collected a season-high 13, including eight in the second game. The Mules scored two of their final three points on senior Mary Henning’s 100th and 101st career aces.

“It’s great to get my 100th ace, but it was really a team effort tonight,” said Henning. “Serving was a key focus for us this week during practice and it paid off tonight.”

After a back and forth first game, Dickinson took an early 8-2 lead on Muhlenberg in the second one. But the Mules collected 24 of the next 31 points to take a 26-16 lead. Sophomore Megan Young had three of her career-high four aces in the second game.

With a 17-14 lead in the third game, Muhlenberg took over as Eiser served six-straight points including two aces. Senior Julie Lauro had three of her team-high 12 kills during that run.

“It’s great to start off the conference schedule on the right foot,” said senior Courtney Williams who had 10 kills. “We worked really well as a team and used our strengths to our advantage.”
