Senior Christopher King scored two first-half goals to lead the Muhlenberg mens soccer team to a 3-0 win against Kings Point on the second day of the Dr. Al Tucci
We got off to a bit of a slow start yesterday, which is common at the beginning of the season, but came back to get a real emotional win, said King of the 2-1 overtime victory against Claremont. Today we got a couple of early goals. That gave us
King got both of those early goals and was named offensive MVP of the tournament. He took a long clearing pass from classmate Jonathan Roman, split several defenders and scored just 23 seconds into the game the Mules quickest goal since they needed only 14 ticks to score against Centenary in 1999. Midway through the half, King converted a pass from senior Adam Milberg for his 11th career goal. Sophomore Karim Assous closed out the scoring with a late goal. Sophomore Peter Bennett saved three shots to record his first career shutout. Bennett joined seniors James Henshaw and Jose Ramirez on the all-tournament team. Ironically, Johns Hopkins won its two games by the same scores as Muhlenberg 2-1 against Claremont and 3-0 against Kings Point. That may be telling in one way or another, commented King. The teams, who traditionally are among the top contenders for the Centennial Conference title, will find out just how close they are when they square off in the CC opener at Muhlenberg on Sept. 17. |
