The Muhlenberg field hockey team entered the 2006 season looking to improve its scoring from last year. Mission accomplished. A 5-0 shutout of Bryn Mawr gave the Mules (7-4, 2-2) 31 goals with six
The Mules have been scoring in bunches lately, with 15 in their last three games. Coming on the heels of a 6-0 win against Haverford and a 5-4 loss to Johns Hopkins, it is the first time since 1973 that the team has scored at least four times in three straight games. Muhlenberg displayed its explosive offense near the end of the first half against the Owls (2-8, 0-4). Ahead 1-0, the Mules blew the game wide open with three goals in a span of 5:01. Freshman Kelly Havran began the outburst by converting a hit from classmate Tara Cohn with 8:40 on the clock. Another freshman, Kristen Sabia, scored her first career goal after a penalty corner 4:29 later. Just 32 seconds elapsed before senior Jessica Hand made it 4-0 by finishing a breakaway for her fifth goal of the season. Muhlenberg held Bryn Mawr without a shot in defeating the Owls for the 10th year in a row. |
