Earlier this week, two Muhlenberg athletes were named Centennial Conference defensive player of the week in their sports for helping their teams secure home playoff games.

Freshman Samantha Hoffman was honored for women’s soccer. She started at center back for a defense that allowed only five shots on goal in recording back-to-back shutouts of Moravian and Ursinus in the final two games of the regular season. She also contributed to the offense, assisting on the lone goal of the Moravian game off a corner kick.

Senior Kate Moyer earned field hockey honors after contributing to road wins in the Mules’s last two regular-season games. She assisted on the first goal in a 2-0 win at Franklin & Marshall, then made a school-record four defensive saves with Muhlenberg clinging to a one-goal second-half lead at Washington.

Senior goalkeeper Kayla Boisvert and junior back Maura Hendsey were both second-team selections.

District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be nominated for the team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.

Boisvert, a double major in psychology and Spanish, is having an outstanding season in her fourth year as a starting goalie. She is second in the Centennial Conference with a 0.68 goals-against average and has surrendered one goal in her last 663 minutes. A two-time CC player of the week, Boisvert has a career goals-against average of 1.07 with 14 shutouts.

Hendsey, a double major in mathematics and economics, is in her third season as a starting back. She is the only Mule to start every game this year, contributing to a defense that has allowed only 10 goals in the last 14 games and has seven shutouts in the last eight contests. Hendsey also has scored three points, netting her first career goal against Washington.
