MENS TENNIS HOSTS TOURNAMENT
The Muhlenberg mens tennis team opened its fall season by hosting the four-team Muhlenberg Fall Classic, which consisted of mini-tournaments at each of the six singles and three doubles positions. Freshman Robbie Goldwein, playing at No. 1, was the only Mule to make it to the final, winning in a close third-set supertiebreaker against the 2006 Freedom Conference rookie of the year from FDU-Florham. Goldwein dropped another close third-set supertiebreaker to a Moravian player in the final. Senior Michael DiVita (No. 2), freshman Jonathan Farber (No. 3) and sophomore David Weiss (No. 6) all won their consolation finals. |
Two goals early in the second half gave the Muhlenberg womens soccer
team its second win of the weekend, 2-0 at Rutgers-Newark.
Freshman Samantha Hoffman broke a scoreless tie, heading in a long crossing pass from the left side by classmate Christina OGrady for her first career goal, less than five minutes into the second half. Nine minutes later, Muhlenberg opened up a two-goal lead for the first time this season. Senior Andrea Dello Russo took a through pass from freshman Kasey Hacker into the box and pushed the insurance tally inside the near post for her seventh career goal. Muhlenberg outshot the Scarlet Raiders (3-3) by a 15-2 margin, and senior Kayla Boisvert needed to make just one second-half save to post her 10th career shutout. |
