WOMENS TENNIS GETS VICTORY UNDER THE LIGHTS
The Muhlenberg womens tennis team opened up its portion of the fall season with a 5-4 win over Gwynedd-Mercy in the first night home match in the history of the program. Sophomore Carly Rotfeld, playing No. 2, led the way for the Mules, winning both her doubles and singles matches without losing a game. She teamed up with freshman Danielle Weiss for the doubles win. Sophomore Jenn Powell (No. 1) and senior Pam Kimmelman (No. 3) notched the other victories for Berg, teaming up for the doubles win, 8-2, and each winning their singles matches in straight sets. |
After opening up the season with six straight home matches, the Muhlenberg
field hockey team finally had to make a road trip. With a 4-0 victory over
Drew, the Mules found out that they can win away from home, picking up
their biggest shutout win on the road since 1992.
Forward Jillian Duffy notched her fifth goal of the season eight minutes before intermission. Though they got off a season-high 18 first-half shots, the home keeper made 10 saves to keep the score close. Senior forward LisaAnn Polt made the score 2-0 with her fourth goal on the year, giving Muhlenberg a little breathing room, before classmate Jessica Hand found the back of the cage with a rebound in the 67th minute for her 11th career goal. A pair of Mules tallied their first career points late, when freshman forward Kelly Havran recorded a goal that was assisted by sophomore Farrin Jay. |
