MEN’S SOCCER TIES DeSALES

Some Muhlenberg men’s soccer fans were disappointed when the game against DeSales was tied after 90 minutes, either because the overtime would cause them to miss the season premieres of Grey’s Anatomy or CSI, or because the Mules could not score the go-ahead goal despite dominating the second half.

Josh Glueck
Sophomore Josh Glueck and the Mule defense did a good job marking Bulldog scoring leader Randy Sturm (11), who had hat tricks in his last two games. Other than his goal, he took only two shots.
The Lehigh Valley rivals, both defending conference champions, played well into the highly anticipated TV shows, but the game ended a 1-1 tie.

“It’s a lot of soccer,” said sophomore Billy Dalton, who scored Muhlenberg’s only goal. “Both teams fought hard. The result was exactly how the game was played.”

MEN’S GOLF 12th

The Muhlenberg men’s golf team finished 12th at its second fall tournament, the Moravian Invitational. Freshman Chris Trapp led the Mules with a 78.

Both goals were scored close to halftime. The Bulldogs (4-2-1) drew first blood on a direct kick from 25 yards out with 2:28 left in the first half. Just 1:11 into the second half, the Mules (3-1-1) found the equalizer off a corner kick. After the initial kick was cleared, Dalton collected the ball in the midfield and one-hopped it inside the right post for his second career goal.

DeSales took a shot a couple of minutes later, but did not get another shot the rest of the game. Muhlenberg, meanwhile, had nine more shots and eight more corner kicks. The Mules’ best chance at a winning goal came when a shot by sophomore A.J. Barnold went just wide early in the second overtime.

The teams have split their last five meetings, with each team winning twice and one tie.
