VOLLEYBALL DEFLATES BATES

Megan Eiser The Muhlenberg volleyball team split its first two matches at the MIT Invitational, falling to a Williams squad that has yet to lose a game this year before defeating Bates in a seesaw five-game match.

The Mules (5-9) advanced to the Silver Bracket to face Emmanuel and Connecticut College on Saturday.

Bates actually scored more points than Muhlenberg in the second match of the night, forcing a fifth game with a 30-16 victory in Game 4. The Mules came out swinging in the decisive game, scoring 10 of their 15 points on kills. Junior Jess Anselmi recorded kills on all three of her fifth-game attempts, and senior Monica Sella had three of her team-high 11 kills in Game 5.

Junior Megan Young (28) and freshmen Phylicia Lee (22) and Christina Cangelosi (20) gave Muhlenberg three players with at least 20 digs for the first time since a 2004 match against Baptist Bible.

Sophomore Megan Eiser averaged 4.63 assists, 3.13 digs and 0.88 blocks in the two matches.
