Two Close with Losses at Gettysburg

Field Hockey
The Mules ended their season with a 6-1 loss at 17th-ranked Gettysburg. Sophomore Chessie Martinez scored the lone goal, and senior Michelle Consiglio made 13 saves – the second-highest total of her career – in her last game.

Volleyball
Muhlenberg closed out the 2008 season with a 3-1 loss to CC regular-season co-champion Gettysburg. Senior Megan Eiser recorded 32 assists, five kills and three blocks in her last career match, while classmate Danielle Losonci bowed out with a 10-dig effort.

Both Muhlenberg soccer teams qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs with their results on the final day of the regular season.

The women played a scoreless tie with Gettysburg to end the regular season 10-4-4 overall and 5-2-3 in the CC. The Mules finished fourth with 18 points and will host fifth-

Freshman Michele Toher made four saves to earn her second straight shutout. She has not allowed a goal in 379 minutes.

Muhlenberg set a school record with its fourth tie of the season but still has nothing on Gettysburg, which finished with a strange 5-6-6 record.

The men blanked Ursinus, 3-0, in their last regular-season game. The fifth-place Mules (12-5-1, 5-3-1) will travel to Dickinson on Wednesday for a first-round playoff game. Gettysburg, Johns Hopkins and Dickinson all tied for second with 17 points (one more than Muhlenberg), with Dickinson getting the fourth seed on tiebreakers.

Freshman Cody Antonini converted a free kick from junior Samuel Hayden midway through the first half to open the scoring against the Bears (7-11, 3-6). Senior Billy Dalton netted his seventh goal of the season shortly thereafter.

The Mules were the beneficiary of an own goal late in the game. Senior Joseph Gogel made a great save in the final five minutes to preserve the shutout.

Muhlenberg is 15-0-1 all-time against Ursinus in CC games.
