With many early-morning practices in Deitrich Field House under their
belts, the members of the Muhlenberg mens golf team were ready for
their 2005 spring season to start.
Mother Nature had other ideas however,
pushing the opening match back with three postponements.
Once the Mules finally got started, they had trouble finding their groove.
Three players shot in the 70s in the spring opener at Moravian, but the
team had only three rounds in the 70s the rest of the year and finished
seventh at the Centennial Conference Championships.
Muhlenbergs best finish of the year was second place at its own fall
invitational. That was also the last match coached by first-year
coach Mario Bellomo, who left and was replaced for the spring season by
Rob Shutte.
Junior Chris Walach led the team with an 80.9 stroke average and
posted two top-10 finishes. He tied for fourth at Franklin & Marshall with
a season-best round of 74 and tied for sixth at Lebanon Valley. Sophomore
Patrick Moyle averaged 83.5 and tied Walach for the Mules best
score at the CC Championships.
