The Mules opened the year in dominating fashion, tying a school record for goals in a 21-5 win against DeSales. They won five of their first six games to improve their non-conference record to 9-1 over the past two seasons. The team also put up a 20-2 win against Moravian and used suffocating defense to defeat Wesley, 10-4. When they werent blowing out non-CC opponents, the Mules were squeaking by them. They won back-to-back overtime games at Centenary (N.J.) and Kings Point. Freshman Sean Toohill and sophomore Justin Hollander were the offensive leaders of the young squad with 21 points apiece. Toohill netted 17 goals, and Hollander tied for the fourth-highest assist total in school history with 12. He now shares seventh on the Mule career assists list with 15. Two more freshmen, Cliff Burwell and John Kushay, scored 15 and 11 goals, respectively, and sophomore Galen Marsh netted 13. Sophomore Kevin Kessler recorded five assists.
Muhlenberg nearly picked up a CC win against Haverford, but its comeback attempt fell one goal short in a 7-6 loss. The Mules also suffered close losses at Ursinus, 8-5, and at home against McDaniel, when they outscored the Green Terror, 6-0, in the final quarter of the season finale, but fell by a 13-11 score. Junior Bradley Lutzer and freshman Kyle Hart started all 14 games on defense for the Mules, and Steven Toto, another freshman, started 13. Lutzer led the squad with 49 ground balls, six more than Hart in second place. Toto was fourth with 41 ground balls. Justin Saverine won 100 of 194 faceoffs (.515) and grabbed 42 ground balls during his junior season, including a school-record 14 against Centenary. |
