MEN’S TENNIS IN FIRST PLACE
The Muhlenberg men’s tennis team remained in first place in the Centennial Conference by defeating Dickinson on April 4. The Mules, who tied for fourth in the CC in 1999, have already tied their high of four CC wins in a season, set each of the last two years. Standings through matches of April 6:

WARMACK-CHIPMAN HIRED AS VOLLEYBALL COACH
Muhlenberg has hired Jenny Warmack-Chipman, a former star hitter for the top-ranked Division I team in the country, as head volleyball coach. She replaces interim coach Paula Reed, who will remain with the program as an assistant. Warmack-Chipman spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Methodist, where she helped the Mustangs record their first 20-win season ever in 1999. She played her college ball at the University of Texas from 1991-94 and was team MVP and a second team All-Southwest Conference selection in 1994. With Warmack-Chipman on the roster, Texas was ranked first in the nation before losing to Florida in the 1993 NCAA Regional Finals. Her coach at Texas, Mick Haley, is now the head coach of the U.S. National Team.

WOMEN’S GOLF at Gettysburg Invitational. Muhlenberg sent two golfers to the inaugural Gettysburg Women's Invitational. Sophomore Kathryn Baker shot a 135.

Tuesday, April 4
SOFTBALL at Dickinson, rained out
BASEBALL vs. Swarthmore, rained out
MEN’S GOLF finished sixth at Gettysburg Invitational. The Muhlenberg B team finished higher than seven varsity A teams at Gettysburg. Sophomore Kevin FitzPatrick was low man among the five Mule players, all of whom shot between 81 and 85. Click here for box score.
MEN’S TENNIS Muhlenberg 6, Dickinson 1. The Mules rolled to their 10th straight win as junior Robby Richman and freshmen Brad Scheller, Cameron Parke and Matt Fleissig all won at both singles and doubles. Senior Siddhartha Velandy recorded his first singles win of the season, 6-1, 6-0. Muhlenberg's 7-0 start is its best since 1942 (9-0) and the best start for any athletic team at the school since the men's soccer team opened up 9-0 in 1994. Click here for box score.

Wednesday, April 5
BASEBALL Muhlenberg 19, Swarthmore 4. Junior Dylan Sapir went 3-for-3, senior Chuck Draper drove in four runs and sophomore Joshua Carter homered for the second straight game to lead Muhlenberg past Swarthmore. Sapir singled in the second, third and fourth innings. Carter's round-tripper was an inside-the-park home run to cap a five-run third. Draper and freshman Justin Rubenstein each singled in two runs during a six-run sixth. Junior Paul Luongo struck out seven in six innings to earn his first career win. Click here for box score.
MEN’S GOLF finished third at Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic. Senior Matt Skilton was the medalist for the second consecutive tournament, firing a 78 in windy conditions to lead the field of 102 golfers. Senior Matt Deibert was a stroke behind with a 79, giving Muhlenberg two of the four golfers to crack 80. The team finished five strokes behind Division II Millersville and just one stroke back of York. Click here for box score.
LACROSSE East Stroudsburg 15, Muhlenberg 9. Junior Kerry Lambert scored a career-high-tying four goals, but the Mules dropped their third in a row. Junior Cheryl Taft scored twice to record her first career multiple-goal game. Click here for box score.
WOMEN’S TENNIS Bryn Mawr 7, Muhlenberg 2. Senior Kristin Cahayla was in on both of Muhlenberg's points, teaming up with junior Marissa Lutzer for a win at No. 2 doubles and then winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles. It was her fourth singles win in the last five matches. Click here for box score.

Thursday, April 6
SOFTBALL Muhlenberg 3, Dickinson 2; Muhlenberg 5, Dickinson 0. A pair of outstanding pitching performances led Muhlenberg to a Centennial Conference doubleheader sweep. Senior Heather Dreby struck out a career-high 12 batters in the first game, and sophomore Angie Tyson pitched a two-hit shutout in the nightcap. The Mules came from behind twice in the opener to tie, then won it in the 10th when sophomore Lori Blanchfield singled home senior Cristina Genna with two outs. In the second game, freshman Kelly Berg walked, stole second and came around to score in the first inning, then singled and stole second to ignitea four-run sixth inning. Click here for box scores.

Friday, April 7
BASEBALL Muhlenberg 7, Swarthmore 4. Junior John Ziegler pitched six strong innings, allowing only one earned run, to earn his first win of the season as Muhlenberg won for the third straight game. Sophomore Greg Frein came on in relief to notch the save. Junior David Wolf scored three runs, and freshman Justin Rubenstein hit a big two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth. Sophomore Joshua Carter stole his 41st career base, tying the school record. Click here for box score.
WOMEN’S TENNIS New York University 7, Muhlenberg 2. Freshman Samantha Evans was the lone singles winner, defeating her opponent in straight sets. Freshmen Shannon Rorick and Lindsay Goward also earned points for the Mules with a win at No. 3 doubles. Click here for box score.
MEN’S TENNIS New York University 5, Muhlenberg 2. The Mules ended their season opening seven-match win streak. Freshman Matt Fleissig and junior Mike McCormick both picked up singles wins. Click here for box score.

Saturday, April 8
SOFTBALL Muhlenberg 8, Franklin & Marshall 0; Muhlenberg 8, Franklin & Marshall 0. Senior Heather Dreby and sophomore Angie Tyson combined to allow only seven hits in pitching the Mules' first doubleheader shutout in four years. Dreby gave up four hits, while Tyson surrendered three — as many as she had at the plate — in pitching her second straight shutout. Muhlenberg broke on top quickly with six runs in the first inning of Game 1, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior Melissa Nardi. Tyson's triple in the sixth ended the game due to the eight-run rule. Freshman left fielder Kristen Best preserved the shutout by throwing out a runner at the plate. An RBI double by Nardi and senior Christine Biechy's two-run single opened the floodgates in the third inning of Game 2. Click here for box scores.
BASEBALL Washington (Md.) 18, Muhlenberg 4; Muhlenberg 4, Washington 2. Junior Tim Haberbusch pitched a five-hitter in the nightcap to lift Muhlenberg to the split. The Mules took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by sophomore Joshua Carter and junior Michael Cirillo, then added two insurance runs the next inning on two-out RBI hits by junior Marcus Mattielli and sophomore Ben Leisawitz. In the opener, Cirillo went 3-for-4 and started three double plays, and Carter became the school's all-time stolen bases leader when he swiped his 42nd career base. Click here for box scores.
MEN’S GOLF at Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational. First round cancelled due to inclement weather.
LACROSSE Western Maryland 18, Muhlenberg 13. The Mules, once down by seven in the second half, closed the gap to three with 3:03 left in the game, however the Green Terror scored the last two goals to secure the victory. Junior Miruna Lovin led the way for the Mules with 6 goals, moving into fourth place on the all-time list with 95 for her career. Click here for box score.
WOMEN’S TENNIS Muhlenberg 5, Washington (Md.) 4. The bottom half of the singles ladder did the most damage as the Mules snapped a four-match losing skid. Senior Kristin Cahayla (No. 4) and freshmen Shannon Rorick (No. 5) and Lindsay Goward (No. 6) all picked up singles wins, and Rorick and Goward teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles. TRACK & FIELD men finished eighth and women 12th at Messiah Invitational. The men's team had two event champions and one record-breaker at Messiah. Sophomore Will Elson won the 800 meters from a field of 34 in 2:05.1, and freshman Jason App tied for first in the pole vault. Freshman Brendan Gallagher set the school record — his third of the year — in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:49.6, three seconds better than the previous mark. He finished third. For the women, junior Katrina Beck tied for fourth in the high jump, and sophomore Nancy Kegelman was fifth in the javelin. Click here for Muhlenberg highlights.

Sunday, April 9
SOFTBALL at Moravian, snowed out
MEN’S GOLF at Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational. Second round cancelled due to even more inclement weather.
WOMEN’S TENNIS Carnegie Mellon 5, Muhlenberg 4. The freshman No. 3 doubles team of Shannon Rorick and Lindsay Goward won for the third straight day, but the Mules were nosed out. Rorick also won her singles match, and senior Kristin Cahayla won at both singles and doubles. Click here for box score.
MEN’S TENNIS Carnegie Mellon 4, Muhlenberg 3. Muhlenberg won the doubles point, but Carnegie Mellon came back to win four of the five contested singles match. Freshman Brad Scheller was a doubles winner and captured a three-set singles match. Junior No. 1 Robby Richman took his ranked opponent to three sets before falling. Click here for box score.
